Kunsthalle Wien Ousts Curatorial Collective WHW, Prompting Board Member Resignation
The curatorial collective What, How & for Whom has been removed from its leadership position at Kunsthalle Wien. According to Austrian newspaper Der Standard, the municipal government issued an open call for the director role, but all applicants, including WHW, failed to meet the criteria, leading to a new call. In response, board member Boris Marte resigned in protest, telling Der Standard the decision violated his ethical standards and was not properly presented to the supervisory board. The Croatia-based collective, formed in 2000 and comprising Ivet Ćurlin, Nataša Ilić, Sabina Sabolović, and Ana Dević, had previously directed Galerija Nova in Zagreb before taking over Kunsthalle Wien in 2019 following Nicolaus Schafhausen's departure.
