Kunsthalle Wien mounts largest local art survey in a decade

exhibition · 2026-05-05

Kunsthalle Wien is staging 'Lebt und arbeitet in Wien', its most extensive survey of Viennese contemporary art in over ten years. Running for six months across the institution's venues in Museumsquartier and at Karlsplatz, the exhibition features over 130 works by 56 artists who live and work in Vienna. Media include painting, sculpture, installation, drawing, photography, performance, sound, film, and video. A public programme of talks, performances, and events accompanies the show, which frames the city as a dynamic production space where art critically engages with conservative forces and asserts its own agency. This is the fifth edition of a series initiated by Kunsthalle Wien in 2000, continuing a tradition of celebrating Vienna's artistic discourse and diverse community. The exhibition is curated by Daniel.
