Kunsthall Oslo Relocates to Tøyen with New Focus on Community

Kunsthall Oslo has moved to Kjølberggata 21 in Tøyen, leaving behind its previous location in Bjørvika. This change is the fourth for the gallery since it opened in 2010, largely due to financial issues, including a rent hike that had doubled in Bjørvika, resulting in a lease of 900,000 NOK with further increases anticipated. Director Will Bradley mentioned that the new space will save them several hundred thousand kroner compared to the old lease and about 700,000–800,000 less than what a new contract in Bjørvika would cost. The larger venue will include a common room for live events, with plans for monthly happenings starting next year. The opening exhibition, 'The Unfolding,' features artists like Mariem Abutaleb and Tauba Auerbach, kicking off tonight. Bradley emphasized the gallery's commitment to community engagement and youth-led programs, focusing on collaboration with other institutions rather than competing with them.
