Kubo Tsushima Architects' Third Place Mt.Fuji: Three Villas in Dialogue with the Mountain
Kubo Tsushima Architects have completed 'The Third Place Mt.Fuji,' a cluster of three private villas on a undulating site at the foothills of Mount Fuji in Fujikawaguchiko, Japan. Completed in 2025, the 374 m² project features buildings positioned along a shared axis oriented toward the mountain. Each villa embodies a distinct spatial condition—floating, sinking, and enveloping—aiming to reconfigure perception, bodily awareness, and the experience of time. The project was curated by Miwa Negoro, with structural engineering by MID Architectural Structure Laboratory, MEP engineering by Yamazaki M&E Design, and construction by System Design. Principal architects are Hideaki Kubo and Yumi Tsushima, with project team members Mizuki Miura and Ryo Tanaka. Developer is Landix. Manufacturers include MARAZZI, Panasonic, and REFIN.
