architecture-design · 2026-04-06

In 2025, the Zdar Wooden Housing project was finalized by Kuba & Pilař architekti at Sázavská 10/12 in Žďár nad Sázavou, Czech Republic. This residential complex, notable for being one of the country's initial large wooden structures, aims to provide affordable rental options. It incorporates a classic block layout, featuring public areas, semi-private courtyards, and individual gardens, along with a south-facing courtyard and green spaces. The building comprises four stories above ground, utilizing CLT panels and glued laminated timber trusses. Emphasizing sustainability, the design integrates passive energy techniques and nature-inspired landscaping. The initiative was a collaboration with the city and Česká spořitelna, backed by the Ministry of Regional Development, covering a built-up area of 1027 m². Photography by BoysPlayNice.
