Krzysztof Wodiczko's Drone Performance in Milan's Parco Sempione

artist · 2026-05-04

Krzysztof Wodiczko's performance 'Loro (Them)' uses four low-altitude drones equipped with eyes and megaphones to give voice to stories of immigration, marginalization, and citizenship. The work debuted on June 6 and runs through June 8 at the Teatro Continuo by Alberto Burri in Parco Sempione, Milan. Commissioned by the New York-based nonprofit More Art, the project transforms drones from perceived threats into tools for interpersonal communication. A related conference, 'Loro/Them: A Conversation on Immigration and Marginality,' takes place on June 8 at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore, featuring the artist, curator Micaela Martegani, and other speakers. Wodiczko, a Polish artist living between New York and Boston and teaching at Harvard, is known for large-scale projections on iconic buildings, including 'Abraham Lincoln: War Veteran Projection' (2012) in New York, also commissioned by More Art. His work consistently addresses themes of war, emigration, and social exclusion.
