Krizia: The Italian Brand That Revolutionized Fashion
In 1954, Maria Mandelli, affectionately known as Mariuccia, established Krizia in Milan alongside Flora Dolci. The brand's name is inspired by the concept of female vanity from Plato's 'Critias.' Krizia's inaugural collection was showcased at SAMIA in 1957 and later at Palazzo Pitti in 1964, where it earned the Critica della Moda award. Mandelli's design aesthetic featured geometric shapes and drew from Pop Art and artists like Kandinsky. She incorporated materials such as cork and aluminum, creating signature styles like architectural pleating and sculptural bras. The brand collaborated with designers including Karl Lagerfeld and expanded into fragrances and menswear during the 1980s. In 1986, Mandelli received the title of Commendatore della Repubblica. In 2014, she sold Krizia to Shenzhen Marisfrolg, headed by Zhu Chongyun.
