Kristi Kongi's Chromatic Drift Opens at Kumu Art Museum in 2026

The Kumu Art Museum in Tallinn, Estonia, will open Chromatic Drift, the most ambitious solo exhibition to date by Estonian painter Kristi Kongi (b. 1985), on May 22, 2026. The exhibition creates a holistic sensory and spatial experience centered on color, extending beyond the canvas onto floors, walls, windows, and outdoor spaces. It features new works created specifically for this display. The title's first part, 'chromatic,' refers to color intensity and richness, while 'drift' evokes a poetic mode of being in unmapped territory. Curator Ann Mirjam Vaikla notes that the paintings radiate a darkness where pure spectral colors are replaced by earthbound tones like purple, brown, and burgundy, and that these seemingly ablaze landscapes speak to the aesthetics of the Anthropocene.
