Krista Kim's digital meditation takes over Times Square billboards for three minutes nightly
Throughout February 2022, three minutes before midnight, all 90 electronic billboards in Times Square simultaneously display a "healing light" installation by Canadian metaverse artist Krista Kim. The piece, titled Continuum, replaces advertising with gradients of pink, blue, and orange intended to create a calming effect on the physical and mental noise of the city. The installation is part of the Continuum Tour, which launched alongside Smashing Pumpkins guitarist Jeff Schroeder and debuted in Miami during Art Basel week in December 2021. Kim, based between Toronto and New York, has been exploring "digital consciousness" since 2012, founding the Techism Movement in 2014 to reframe digital innovation as an artistic and humanistic discipline. In 2020, she created Mars House, the first metaverse home sold as an NFT, which fetched the highest price ever on SuperRare in March 2021. She has since worked with Louis Vuitton on its bicentennial campaign, served as creative director for the Utah Jazz NBA team (the first metaverse NFT sports team), and is Metaverse editor for Vogue Singapore.
