KorSonoR: Geneva's First Sound Art Festival Maps the City Through Listening
The first edition of KorSonoR, an exhibition-festival-symposium on sound and visual arts curated by Olivier Kaeser of Arta Sperto, takes place across multiple venues in Geneva until October 22, 2023. The event features site-specific works that explore the political and poetic dimensions of listening. At Le Commun, a video by Kim Gordon and Manuella Dalle shows Gordon scraping her electric guitar against car bodies in a scrapyard, producing a noisy symphony. Christina Kubisch leads Electrical Walks where participants wear induction headphones to hear electromagnetic fields in the city, ending at the silent Île Rousseau. Susan Philipsz installs The River Cycle under Pont du Mont-Blanc, broadcasting her a cappella version of Radiohead's Pyramid Song every ten minutes. Olga Kokcharova presents Retours Loge at La Comédie de Genève, a quadraphonic recording of the theater's acoustic properties. Anne Rochat's In Pulse at Flux Laboratory uses a heart rate sensor to generate light signals, with different artists reinterpreting the device. The festival also references Max Neuhaus's permanent work Promenade du pin (2002).
