Korean shamanic and Buddhist performance "Résonances" at Musée Guimet on May 22

cultural-heritage · 2026-05-22

The Compagnie Baru presents "Résonances" at Musée Guimet on May 22, 2026, marking the first time this performance is staged outside Korea. The show immerses audiences in Korea's foundational beliefs through shamanism and Buddhism, weaving sequences from the Yeongsanjae Buddhist ritual, the Jindo ssitgimgut shamanic ritual for purifying souls, and the Byeolsingut coastal ritual for village protection and fishing abundance. Dance, ancestral songs, and live paper-cut flower creation combine to envelop the world's suffering in collective energy. Monk Subeom performs sutras and the famous monk dance, accompanied by shamanic dancers and singers Pak Kee-ryang and Hong Hyo-jin, and musician Jeong Yeon-rak, who also created traditional Korean paper lamps that enhance the atmosphere. On May 23, during Nuit des musées 2026, three 20-minute excerpts will be presented in the museum's Khmer courtyard to celebrate the Fête des Lanternes.
