Korean Contemporary Art Showcased in Abu Dhabi Exhibition Exploring Technology, Body, and Urbanization

From May 16 to June 30, 2025, Manarat Al Saadiyat in Abu Dhabi presented "Layered Medium: We Are in Open Circuits," marking the first significant showcase of Korean contemporary art in the Gulf region. Co-curated by Kyung-Hwan Yeo and Maya El Khalil, the exhibition examined how Korean artists have reacted to social, political, and technological transformations over the past sixty years. Featured works included Nam June Paik's 1998 Self Portrait Dharma Wheel, Lee Kun-Yong's The Method of Drawing series, Min Oh's 2018 Étude for Étude, films by Sojung Jun on Korean division, Ayoung Kim's 2022 Delivery Dancer’s Sphere, and Goen Choi's 2024 sculpture Gloria. This event was a joint effort between the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation and the Seoul Museum of Art.
