Koray Duman's Büro Koray Duman Unveils Five Major International Projects

architecture-design · 2026-05-11

Büro Koray Duman (B-KD), founded in 2013 by Koray Duman, has completed five landmark international projects. Two are at the 61st Venice Biennale: the UAE National Pavilion in Arsenale and Denniston Hill's special project in the Central Pavilion of Giardini. In Pittsburgh, B-KD designed the 59th Carnegie International at Carnegie Museum of Art, running through January 3, 2027. In New York, the firm designed the National Academy's "Future Schools" exhibition and a multi-generational residential project in upstate New York. Duman's vision emphasizes inclusivity and cultural exchange. For Denniston Hill, he created "Chimera," an anti-imperial living ecosystem. For the UAE Pavilion, titled "Washwasha" (Arabic for "whispering"), the design explores sound and memory through a journey from a masonry form to a halvet, an inner courtyard, and chambers with hanging speakers. At the Carnegie International, B-KD used free-standing walls, limewash textures, and platforms to create productive tension between existing architecture and new interventions. Duman also discussed a 2021 proposal with artist Carlos Motta for a High Line AIDS memorial and a 2016 competition win for the Noguchi Museum's storage building. His residential project Germantown House, for artist Miranda Fengyuan Zhang, comprises three barn-inspired volumes for multi-generational living.
