Koo Jeong A's 'KANGSE X' at Hauser & Wirth Zurich

exhibition · 2026-04-28

Koo Jeong A's solo exhibition, 'KANGSE X', is currently on display at Hauser & Wirth Zurich until May 16, 2026. The exhibition's title is inspired by the Korean word KANGSE, meaning spatial strength, and builds upon her earlier showcase, 'ODORAMA CITIES', presented at the Korean Pavilion during the 60th Venice Biennale, which stemmed from her 2017 animation 'MYSTERIOUSSS'. Koo's artistic endeavors encompass various mediums, including drawing, painting, sculpture, and augmented reality, often engaging with natural elements such as gravity and electromagnetic fields. This exhibition coincides with her show 'LAND OF OUSSS [GRAVITTA]' at Kunsthaus Bregenz. New bronze sculptures feature the Kangse figure balancing on one toe, while 'DENSITY X' (2025) presents a levitating ice cube in a magnetic field, challenging traditional spatial concepts. 'LAVA X' (2025) introduces scent, continuing her olfactory exploration since 1996. The Seven Stars series employs phosphorescent pigment that glows green in darkness, revealing stars named after classical planets, connecting terrestrial and cosmic realms through invisible forces.
