Komunuma: New Cultural Hub in Paris Suburb to Open with Five Galleries
A new cultural hub named Komunuma is set to open in Romainville, northeast of Paris, in October 2019 (date to be confirmed, possibly during FIAC). The project, led by architecture firm Freaks, covers over 11,000 square meters and will house five contemporary art galleries (Air de Paris, Imane Farès, In Situ Fabienne Leclerc, Jocelyn Wolff, Vincent Sator), the regional FRAC Île-de-France, the Jeune Création association, and the Fiminco Foundation. Air de Paris and Jocelyn Wolff will close their existing spaces to focus solely on Romainville, while others retain their Paris locations. The Fiminco Foundation, dedicated to multidisciplinary contemporary creativity, launches a call for 18 curators to create exhibitions and events, with an 11-month residency starting January 2020. Selected candidates receive studios, housing, and €20,000 for an exhibition cycle. Applications are due by October 10, 2019. The project aligns with the Grand Paris initiative to extend cultural activities to suburbs.
