Koki Tanaka recreates 1985 Liverpool student strike walk for Liverpool Biennial
Koki Tanaka, a Japanese artist, is creating an interactive project for the 2022 Liverpool Biennial. On Sunday, 5 June, at 1pm, a public walk will take place, starting at St George's Hall and ending at the Pier Head. This event will commemorate the 1985 demonstration where 10,000 children from Liverpool protested against the Conservative Government's Youth Training Scheme (YTS), which was criticized for substituting benefits with low-wage training for those aged 16-17. Tanaka welcomes former protesters, their children, current students, and others to join in. Attendees are invited to share their experiences and carry placards addressing contemporary social issues. The walk will be recorded and displayed at Open Eye Gallery. For more information, contact Jennifer Watts at jennifer@biennial.com or +44 (0)151 203 3578.
