Kochi-Muziris Biennale postponed to November 2021 due to COVID-19

festival-fair · 2026-04-20

The Kochi-Muziris Biennale, originally set to kick off on December 21, 2020, has been postponed to November 1, 2021, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. The organizers cited a rise in COVID-19 cases in Kerala, travel restrictions, and challenging circumstances as the reasons for the change. Bose Krishnamachari, who heads the Kochi Biennale Foundation, is hopeful that things will improve by November 2021 for a safe event. In the meantime, they will continue with their programs. The fourth edition of the Students' Biennale, for Indian BFA and MFA students, will now take place online starting February 21, 2021, with guidance from five curator-mentors. Additionally, Art By Children activities have also moved online, featuring a graphic fiction workshop by Sarnath Banerjee.
