Kipras Dubauskas presents 'Emergency Break' in Bologna
Lithuanian artist Kipras Dubauskas (born 1988 in Vilnius) is showing his cinematic installation 'Emergency Break' in Bologna, curated by Elisa Del Prete and Silvia Litardi. The project is part of Art City Bologna's Main Program, selected by NOS Visual Arts Productions with MAMbo. The installation features the 'rescue trilogy' with dual 16mm film projections of '36 Chambers' (2019) and 'Daynighting' (2020), plus a preview of 'Firestarter', the latest film produced in Bologna. Dubauskas draws inspiration from the city's medieval and Renaissance iconography, art history, towers, and firefighters. He explored Bologna's underground canals, tunnels, and porticoes, influenced by Walter Benjamin's 'Passages of Paris'. The work is on view until May 14, 2022, at Fondazione Innovazione Urbana in Palazzo D'Accursio. The project was realized with Home Movies, Lithuanian Culture Institute, Sandra Natali Artist Residency, and the Municipality of Bologna.
