Kinship, Communitas, Comunidad Symposium at Afterall
On May 16, 2023, Afterall is putting together a public symposium called 'Kinship, Communitas, Comunidad.' This event follows last year's panel titled 'Global Indigenous?' and ties into the latest issue of Afterall. There will be twelve speakers discussing vital topics like kinship, community, sovereignty, and resistance to colonial influences. Among the speakers, Candice Hopkins will talk about Documenta 14 and Indigenous artists, while Charles Esche will explore the idea of demodernization. Zoe Todd will focus on tenderness as an ethical approach. The symposium is organized by Wanda Nanibush and Charles Stankievech, both of whom contribute to Afterall, and will be held in Room UC 140 at the University College, near the University of Toronto Art Centre, with backing from SSHRC and the university’s architecture faculty.
