King's Cross: da zona degradata a quartiere green di Londra
King's Cross, once a rundown industrial area in London plagued by prostitution and drug trafficking, has transformed into one of the city's most vibrant and green neighborhoods through extensive urban redevelopment. Nestled between Bloomsbury and Regent's Park, and adjacent to St. Pancras station, the locale has seen former warehouses converted into artistic spaces, attracting a wave of artists and designers. New parks, squares, bridges, and over 4,000 trees have been introduced. Key projects include the Handyside Gardens by landscape architect Dan Pearson, Granary Square designed by Townshend Landscape Architects, Lewis Cubitt Walk by Laurie Olin, Camley Street Natural Park, St. Pancras Park, and Gasholder Park, which features three cast-iron gas holders. Additionally, Ooze Architects and artist Marjetica Potrč have created London’s first natural swimming pool, employing phytoremediation without chlorine.
