exhibition · 2026-05-17

In Fort Worth, the Kimbell Art Museum revealed its upcoming exhibition, "Treasures of the Pharaohs," set for 2027. This showcase will display 130 artifacts from both the Egyptian Museum in Cairo and the Luxor Museum, highlighting 3,000 years of ancient Egyptian history through the stories of its rulers. It is one of five international venues for this traveling exhibition and one of two in the U.S. Scheduled from March 14 to September 19, 2027, it follows its premiere at the de Young Museum in San Francisco (August 1, 2026 – January 31, 2027). Curated by Dr. Tarek el-Awady and organized by Jennifer Casler Price, the exhibition features six thematic sections, including "The Golden City," showcasing artifacts from Pharaoh Amenhotep's workers' community. Notable pieces include golden sarcophagi of Thuya and Queen Ahhotep, Amenemope's funerary mask, and Psusennes I's gold collar. Artifacts span from Dynasty I (3100 BCE) to the Ptolemaic period (321 BCE). Kimbell Director Eric M. Lee praised the exhibition as "brilliant, both visually and intellectually."
