Kim Whan-ki Painting Sets New Korean Artist Auction Record at Seoul Auction Hong Kong Sale

A painting by Kim Whan-ki (1913-1974) titled 12-V-70 #172 achieved 6.32 billion won (£4.2 million) at Seoul Auction's 20th Hong Kong sale, held at the Hong Kong Grand Hyatt. This result surpassed both the pre-sale estimate of 4.5–5.8 billion won and the previous record of 5.4 billion won, which was also set by a work by Kim in June. According to Kim Yoon-sub, director of the Korean Arts Management Institute, Korean modern art is receiving increased global recognition.
