Kim Kardashian acquires Princess Diana's Attallah Cross at Sotheby's auction

Kim Kardashian won the Attallah Cross, a jewel beloved by Princess Diana, at a Sotheby's auction in London. The pendant, made of amethysts and diamonds, was purchased through an intermediary for £163,800, double its pre-sale estimate. The piece was created in 1920 by court jeweler Garrard and was never owned by Diana Spencer but was frequently lent to her by Naim Attallah, managing director of Asprey & Garrard and a friend of the princess. Diana wore it to a charity gala in 1987 and on many other occasions. The auction, titled Royal and Noble, took place on January 18 and featured over 200 items from aristocratic collections. Kristian Spofforth, head of Sotheby's London jewelry department, described the cross as a bold statement of faith or fashion.
