KIDZ Studio Transforms Belgrade Café into Campus-Inspired Social Hub

KIDZ Studio has redesigned the Kafeterija coffee house in Belgrade's Vračar district, treating the multi-level space as a responsive system rather than a static interior. The project, the fourth iteration for the specialty coffee chain, prioritizes modular adaptability over singular aesthetics. The studio manipulated four architectural vectors—tactility, illumination, seating typography, and a focal point—to create a design that behaves like a domestic layout. The material palette combines two timber species with raw iron and polished stainless steel, exposing the building's original structural scars. Neutral tones are punctuated by green and the brand's signature muted pink. The ground level features expansive glazing for high turnover, while the lower level adopts a campus-inspired layout with a monolithic communal wood table, acoustic dampening, and low lighting for prolonged engagement. A custom coffee bar constructed from deep-dyed concrete masonry units and semi-transparent surfaces serves as the structural core. The design rejects generic minimalism, instead respecting Vračar's gritty, intellectual character. KIDZ Studio's approach mirrors its work on Cinnamood Café in Barcelona, Daikan Ramen in Dubai, and Sloji Bakery in Belgrade.
