Kianí Del Valle Debuts 'Mundos Rotos' at TONO Festival in Mexico City

Kianí Del Valle unveiled her solo dance work 'Mundos Rotos' at Casa del Lago in Mexico City, coinciding with the closing weekend of the fourth edition of the TONO Festival. Directed, choreographed, and performed by Del Valle, the performance included live original music composed by Kelman Duran. This piece is part of a broader initiative that Del Valle is developing into an operatic ensemble through her KDV Performance Group. Originating as a written essay and evolving into a photographic essay, 'Mundos Rotos' has transformed into a three-act solo performance that delves into themes of fragmentation, chaos, and the endurance of brokenness without resolution. The premiere on March 21st commemorates the 1937 Ponce massacre in Puerto Rico, integrating speeches from Pedro Albizu Campos and Malcolm X in the first act, and concluding with a speech by José Mujica. Del Valle’s artistic approach fuses contemporary dance with elements of performance art, film, photography, architecture, pop culture, technology, and sound. Additionally, she has choreographed for commercial projects featuring Bad Bunny, Travis Scott, and Billie Eilish.
