Khao Yai Art Forest opens in Thailand with Bourgeois spider, site-specific works, and ambitious ecological vision
The Khao Yai Art Forest, a modern art hub spanning 85 hectares adjacent to Khao Yai National Park in Thailand, has officially opened its doors. This venue showcases artworks from renowned artists such as Louise Bourgeois, Francesco Arena, Fujiko Nakaya, and Richard Long. Established by philanthropist Marisa Chearavanont and managed by Stefano Rabolli Pansera, the site emphasizes both artistic expression and ecological restoration. Highlighted works include Bourgeois's "Maman" (1999–2002), Arena's "GOD" (2024), and Nakaya's "Khao Yai Fog Forest, Fog Landscape #48435" (2024). Admission costs 500 baht (£12). Chearavanont's vision, inspired by the COVID-19 pandemic, seeks to rejuvenate former agricultural land. The initiative also features artist-led workshops, although some express skepticism about its idealistic goals and corporate connections. This was reported in the Spring 2025 issue of ArtReview Asia.
