Kéré Architecture Designs First Purpose-Built Goethe Institute in Dakar
In a groundbreaking decision, Kéré Architecture, led by Diébédo Francis Kéré, has been chosen to design the first-ever dedicated Goethe Institute, marking a significant milestone in its 75-year history. Located in Dakar, Senegal, this cultural center will cover 1,800 m² and is set to be completed by 2026, managed by Miwa Negoro. The project team includes architects Jaime Herraiz Martínez and Andrea Maretto, with contributions from Fabiola Büchele, Léon Bührer, Javier Mola Cardenes, Linda Franken, and Juan Carlos Zapata. Collaborators on the project include Worofila and several engineering firms. The Goethe Institut e.V. is the client, with photography from Iwan Baan and Jean-Baptiste Joire. This selection underscores the institute's aim to enhance cultural exchanges in West Africa in the 21st century.
