Kenzo Season Zero: Three Filmmakers Tackle Earth's Future

other · 2026-05-05

Kenzo Season Zero, a new initiative by creative directors Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, commissions three young filmmakers to produce short films addressing global issues. The project continues the hybrid DNA of founder Takada Kenzo, who opened his Paris house in 1970 blending Japanese traditions with French haute couture. The selected directors—Mati Diop, Eduardo Williams, and Baptist PenettiCobra—were chosen for their authentic perspectives. Diop's 'Olympe' follows her brother Gard Diop through a nocturnal Paris transformed into a non-place. Williams' nomadic elf travels from Buenos Aires to Bolivia to France, encountering a 'natural artificial intelligence' and a robot builder. PenettiCobra's piece critiques false wellness messages via a love for orange juice. The films also interpret the autumn/winter 2017 collection, continuing Kenzo's dialogue with the world. This follows the spring/summer 2017 film by Nigerian artists Akinola Davies Jr. and Ruth Ossai, which also spawned the quarterly Kenzo Folio magazine. Kenzo will open stores in Barcelona, Tokyo, and Paris.
