Kenneth Goldsmith installs all Hillary Clinton emails at Venice Biennale

exhibition · 2026-05-04

Kenneth Goldsmith will present "HILLARY. The Hillary Clinton Emails" at the Cinema Teatro Italia in Venice during the 58th Venice Biennale. The installation features over 60,000 pages of emails sent by Hillary Clinton from her private domain while Secretary of State (2009–2013), printed in duplicate and displayed alongside a lo-fi replica of Oval Office furnishings. Goldsmith describes the emails as "the greatest poem of the twenty-first century" and the project as an "anti-monument to the brutal smear campaign" led by Donald Trump. The venue, a historic cinema turned supermarket since 2016, will also screen video works from UbuWeb, including pieces by Peggy Ahwesh, Alex Da Corte, and Jordan Wolfson. The show runs from May 9 to November 24, 2019, curated by Francesco Urbano Ragazzi and produced by The Internet Saga and Zuecca Projects. Goldsmith's practice often translates digital material into physical form, as seen in his 2013 "Printing out the Internet" and his 2014 use of illegally downloaded JSTOR articles as a tribute to Aaron Swartz.
