Kenji Ide's 'Texture of Time' at Mendes Wood DM

Mendes Wood DM is showcasing "Texture of Time," featuring sixteen new sculptures by Japanese artist Kenji Ide. These pieces are deeply connected to memory and the artist's environment, transforming ephemeral experiences of time, atmosphere, and human connections into fragile material expressions. Ide's studio practice involves a careful, collage-like approach that blends found and constructed elements, primarily using wood and stone. The exhibition, located in the Germantown gallery, allows the sculptures to interact with the domestic architecture, presenting a human, personal, and somewhat fragmented appearance throughout the space. The plinths, cut to thirty centimeters—Japan's traditional table height—enable viewers to engage with the sculptures as if they were part of a home, at a comfortable resting height for the hand.
