Kengo Kuma to Build 43-Story Residential Tower in Vancouver
Kengo Kuma will design his first Canadian project, Alberni by Kuma, a 43-story residential tower in Vancouver. The building will house 181 residential units with large courtyards, a commercial area, and a restaurant. Its facade will feature glass and anodized aluminum, with concave fronts creating a dynamic appearance. Interiors will use wood extensively, reflecting Kuma's signature style and local materials, while the base will evoke a Japanese garden. The project is backed by developers Westbank and Peterson. Kuma, founder of KKAA (Kengo Kuma and Associates), is also working on the Tokyo Olympic Stadium for 2020, a project originally awarded to Zaha Hadid. He previously gave a lecture at the University of British Columbia to present Alberni by Kuma and other works.
