Kengo Kuma's Metal Mesh Installations at Casa Batlló in Barcelona

exhibition · 2026-04-27

Casa Batlló, Antoni Gaudí's masterpiece in Barcelona, has reopened after extensive renovations, adding 2,000 square meters of new space called Casa Batlló Experience. This area will host multimedia works by Miguel Alonso and Refik Anadol. For the reopening, Japanese architect Kengo Kuma (born 1954 in Yokohama) created site-specific installations using 164,000 meters of Kriskadecor chain. The aluminum mesh cascades like rain, creating iridescent effects through the material's surface, gradient color, and varying chain lengths, enhancing the building's height and light—elements central to Gaudí's design.
