Kengo Kuma's 'Faces' Rugs at Crespi Bonsai Museum Near Milan

exhibition · 2026-04-24

During Fuorisalone 2026, Japanese architect Kengo Kuma presents 'Faces', a rug collection in collaboration with Indian brand Jaipur Rugs, at the Crespi Bonsai Museum in Parabiago, near Milan. The museum, founded 35 years ago by Luigi Crespi, houses the world's largest collection of bonsai outside Japan, including a millenary Ficus retusa under a glass dome. The 16 rugs reinterpret facades of Kuma's iconic buildings—such as the Suntory Museum of Art in Tokyo, Kanayama Community Centre in Gunma, and Albert Kahn Museum in Boulogne-Billancourt—using wool and regenerated viscose. Kuma emphasizes capturing the sensory memory of architecture rather than direct translation. The exhibition runs from April 21 to 24, 9:30–17:30.
