Kengo Kuma & Associates unveils Torre Qapital, first project in Ecuador
Kengo Kuma & Associates has revealed plans for Torre Qapital, a 32-story mixed-use tower in Quito, Ecuador, developed with local firm Uribe Schwarzkopf. The 125.8-meter tower, set for completion in 2029, is the Japanese architect's first project in the country. Located opposite Parque La Carolina in the central business district, the building features a facade inspired by Andean geology, with carved balconies and vegetation integrated at multiple levels. Amenities include a rooftop pool with a Fornasetti mosaic (produced by Bisazza), a wellness area, gym, private cinema, game room, pet spa, and shared social spaces. The tower contains three ground-floor commercial units and 509 micro-apartments (21–36.15 sq m), designed as compact, flexible living spaces. Most units were pre-sold before construction began. Uribe Schwarzkopf has previously collaborated with Bjarke Ingels Group, Ateliers Jean Nouvel, MAD Architects, MVRDV, and Safdie Architects. Kengo Kuma & Associates recently installed Earth | Tree at Copenhagen Contemporary and won the competition for a new wing at the National Gallery in London.
