Ken Price's first UK solo show in a decade opens at Lisson Gallery

exhibition · 2026-04-28

Lisson Gallery, in collaboration with Matthew Marks Gallery, will present a major solo exhibition of Ken Price's work from May 1 to July 25, 2026, in London. This marks the first UK solo presentation of the late American artist in nearly ten years. The show brings together sculptures and drawings, several shown in London for the first time. Price, born in Los Angeles in 1935, was a defining figure in the 1960s Southern California art scene, known for expanding the possibilities of ceramics. His intimate yet monumental sculptures blend abstraction and figuration, with layered, luminous surfaces. Works include 'Prone' (1997), 'Itself' (2003), 'Yin' (2009), and 'Amazon' (2003). The exhibition also highlights his works on paper, such as '100 Foot Sculpture in Isolation' (2007), 'Nature Study' (2007), and 'Two Hermits' (2006), revealing his sculptural thinking in line and color. Price's influences range from Mexican pottery and jazz to Pop culture and desert landscapes. His debut solo show was at Ferus Gallery in 1960, and he appeared on Artforum's cover in 1963. Major institutional exhibitions include the Whitney Museum, LACMA, Menil Collection, and Walker Art Center. The opening reception is April 30, 6–8 PM.
