Ken Price's 1998 ceramic sculpture 'Arctic' enters MoMA collection via Edward R. Broida gift

The Museum of Modern Art in New York acquired Ken Price's 1998 ceramic work 'Arctic' as a gift from collector Edward R. Broida. Created from fired and painted clay, the sculpture measures 22 by 16 3/4 by 15 1/2 inches. Photographer Fredrik Nilsen documented the piece. This acquisition was announced on June 5, 2013, through artcritical's platform. Price's distinctive approach to ceramic art, characterized by vibrant surfaces and organic forms, gained significant recognition during his career. The work represents his mature period where he explored complex glazing techniques and biomorphic shapes. MoMA's collection of contemporary ceramics expanded with this addition, highlighting Price's importance in postwar American art.
