Ken Griffin expands 740 Park Avenue holdings with $38 million duplex purchase

Ken Griffin, who founded Citadel, has just bought a second apartment at 740 Park Avenue in Manhattan for $38 million, paying all in cash. This duplex spans 7,500 square feet and sits next to another one he purchased from Julia Koch for $45 million earlier in 2025, bringing his total investment in the building to about $83 million, not including merger costs. Griffin often buys neighboring properties, as seen with his $238 million penthouse at 220 Central Park South in 2019. The seller of the latest unit had previously acquired it for $20.5 million in 2019, nearly doubling their profit. Griffin's real estate portfolio also includes a $122 million mansion in London and over $275 million worth of properties in Miami since relocating there in 2022. 740 Park Avenue, designed by Rosario Candela in 1929, has housed prominent families like the Rockefellers. Current notable residents include Steven Mnuchin, Vera Wang, and Jacob Safra. This purchase comes as discussions about New York's proposed pied-à-terre tax, aimed at second homes over $5 million, are heating up, backed by Governor Kathy Hochul and Mayor Zohran Mamdani.
