Kelly Akashi to create outdoor sculpture for new Williams College Museum of Art
The Williams College Museum of Art (WCMA) has chosen Kelly Akashi to design a unique outdoor installation for its upcoming building, set to debut in fall 2027. This commission will be placed in the east meadows, oriented towards the campus, by late 2027. Throughout 2026, Akashi plans to engage with the campus community and collaborate with architects and landscape designers. She envisions the project as creating sculptures that embody "botanical, geological, and sculptural" elements, with the goal of enhancing visitors' connections to the local forests and landscape. This artwork aims to emphasize WCMA's ties to its natural surroundings, campus, and collections.
