Keith Haring's 'Montreux Jazz Festival' mural revealed at New York's Faena Hotel

exhibition · 2026-04-26

A previously unseen Keith Haring mural, 'Montreux Jazz Festival' (1983), has been installed at the newly opened Faena Hotel in New York's West Chelsea neighborhood. The work, created on movable panels as a theatrical backdrop for the Montreux Jazz Festival, is the largest non-permanent Haring mural. It was held in a private collection for decades and is now publicly displayed for the first time. The hotel, designed by Bjarke Ingels Group with interiors by Faena Design Team and Peter Mikic, also features a site-specific mural by Argentine artist Diego Gravinese titled 'The Sefirotic Journey' in its entrance hall, The Cathedral. Argentine entrepreneur Alan Faena, founder of the Faena brand, opened the hotel two months ago as part of his expansion from Buenos Aires and Miami Beach to Manhattan. The property includes a restaurant by chef Francis Mallmann, a theater, a healing house, and a public plaza for installations by Faena Art. The Haring mural is located in a corridor leading to the cocktail bar The Living Room, intended as a communal art experience echoing Haring's public art ethos.
