'Keeping Community' Turns a Gallery into a Space for Care
The Center for Art and Advocacy has introduced 'Keeping Community,' an initiative aimed at converting its gallery into a hub for communal support through engaging programs. According to Director Sienna Fekete, liberation is a shared endeavor. The gallery includes a Reading Room curated by Sojourners for Justice Press, a Listening Room provided by Freer Records, and a Youth Art Space featuring creations from the youth at Crossroads Juvenile Center. In collaboration with One Love Community Fridge, a Community Fridge offers fresh produce. This project emerged from the 2025 Community as Practice Block Party, focusing on outreach. It encourages justice-oriented organizations to utilize the space, fostering ongoing care, education, and artistic expression for those with lived incarceration experiences.
