Kazakhstan to Host Expo 2017 in Astana Focused on Future Energy
Kazakhstan will host Expo 2017, a Specialised Expo, from June 10 to September 10 in Astana, marking the first time a Central Asian country holds such an event. The expo, themed 'Future Energy,' aims to showcase renewable energy, energy efficiency, and CO2 reduction. With 120 participating countries and a 174-hectare exhibition area, the event is a major opportunity for Kazakhstan to promote its development. The masterplan was designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture (AS+GG), selected from over 50 international architects. The centerpiece is the Kazakhstan Pavilion, a 80-meter-diameter glass sphere. The site, called Expo City, will be built using bioclimatic architecture and energy-efficient technologies, and after the expo, 90% of the buildings will be repurposed. Astana, a rapidly growing capital, aims to boost tourism through this event.
