Kazakhstan's ORTA Collective Debuts National Pavilion at 59th Venice Biennale with Sergey Kalmykov-Inspired Project

exhibition · 2026-04-20

The ORTA collective, established in 2015 by Rustem Begenov and Alexandra Morozova, is showcasing Kazakhstan at the 59th Venice Biennale, which is happening from April 23 to November 27, 2022. Their exhibition, called 'The Center for the New Genius / Lai-Pi-Chu-Plee-Lapa,' can be found at Spazio Arco, Dorsoduro 1485. Inspired by Sergey Kalmykov (1891–1967), the project aims to transform destructive energy into creative peace, encouraging people to discover their 'inner genius.' After six months of hard work, ORTA plans to introduce a 'Portal to the Fourth Dimension' in November 2022, aiming to challenge misconceptions about Kazakhstan’s culture and expand opportunities for Kazakh artists. This is their first time at the Biennale.
