KAWS AR Sculptures Now Available via Acute Art App
Acute Art, a platform specializing in virtual and augmented reality art projects, has launched a new initiative in collaboration with American artist KAWS. Titled Expanded Holiday, the project comprises three parts: a public exhibition and two series of limited-edition virtual works. The artist's large-scale sculptures, known for their cartoon- and toy-like characters, will be viewable for free via a dedicated smartphone app at twelve locations worldwide until March 26, including Doha, Hong Kong, London, Melbourne, New York, Paris, São Paulo, Seoul, Taipei, Tanzania, and Tokyo. Through the same app, users can purchase or 'rent' digital versions of the works, allowing them to virtually place the sculptures anywhere. 'The emergence of a new medium always opens new possibilities for art,' commented Daniel Birnbaum, artistic director of Acute Art. 'The immersive media we have today are creating entirely new opportunities for the production and distribution of works, and the arrival of augmented reality is giving birth to a new form of immaterial art.'
