Katsuhiro Otomo's 'Memories' Gets 4K Restoration and Italian Cinema Release for 30th Anniversary
Katsuhiro Otomo's 1995 anthology film 'Memories' will screen in Italian cinemas for three days only, from January 12 to 14, 2026, in a new 4K restored version. The release, organized by Dynit and Adler Entertainment, marks the film's 30th anniversary and its first theatrical run in Italy. Originally scheduled for late 2025, the screenings were postponed twice. 'Memories' originated as a manga in 1982, six years before Otomo's masterpiece 'Akira', and was produced by Studio 4°C. The film features three segments directed by different filmmakers: 'Magnetic Rose' directed by Koji Morimoto and written by Satoshi Kon, 'Stink Bomb' directed by Tensai Okamura and produced by Madhouse, and 'Cannon Fodder' animated by Otomo himself in a single continuous shot, marking a transition from traditional to computer-assisted animation. The stories explore human sensitivity in futures where reality and illusion blur.
