Kathryn Garcia Named Future Great 2025 by Dean Sameshima

publication · 2026-04-24

Kathryn Garcia, a multimedia artist who splits her time between Los Angeles and Ibiza, has been selected by Berlin’s Dean Sameshima for ArtReview's Future Greats 2025. Her work spans drawing, performance, and installation, often exploring themes related to the feminine body and spiritual energy. Since 2013, she’s been creating a drawing series called megaliths, symbolizing vast expressions of feminine power. Her sculptures include copper pyramids intended for meditation and smaller geometric shapes placed at energetic intersections. Initially, her performances documented her sculptures in nature, but she’s now moving into filmmaking. Influenced by archaeologist Marija Gimbutas and feminist/queer theory, she’s currently editing footage from Sardinia. Her sculptures are also featured in the 'ISHTAR' exhibition at Bunker Artspace in West Palm Beach, Florida, and she has previously shown her work at the Orange County Museum of Art and Gavlak Gallery.
