Katharina Grosse and Tatiana Trouvé in Dual Exhibition at Villa Medici
The latest edition of the 'Une' exhibition series at the French Academy in Rome – Villa Medici brings together German painter Katharina Grosse (born 1961, lives in Berlin) and Italian-born French artist Tatiana Trouvé (born 1968, lives in Paris) in a two-person show titled 'Irregularities.' Curated by Chiara Parisi and conceived by director Muriel Mayette-Holtz, the exhibition highlights the shared radicality of both artists, who subvert familiar objects through color and sculptural annotation. Grosse transforms the historic spaces with a spectacular environmental intervention using the cut trunks of a pine tree planted by Jean-Auguste-Dominique Ingres during his directorship, draped fabric, and vivid colors evoking Mannerist painting. Trouvé responds with minimal, mysterious assemblages of glass screens and Duchampian metal rods, creating 'threshold' works that map disorientation and migration. The exhibition runs at Villa Medici in Rome.
