Kartell's 50-Year Chair Innovation at Kartellmuseo
The Kartellmuseo in Noviglio presents "Sfidando il futuro. 1966-2016 cinquant’anni di innovazione nelle sedute Kartell," an exhibition tracing the brand's history through fifteen iconic chairs. The show includes prototypes, finished products, projects, and preparatory sketches, highlighting the relationship between form and function and how production processes influence design. Key milestones include the K1340 by Marco Zanuso and Richard Sapper (1964), the first plastic chair for children; the Universale by Joe Colombo (1967), the first plastic chair for adults; the Maui by Vico Magistretti (1996), the first monocoque without back support; and the La Marie by Philippe Starck (1999), the first transparent polycarbonate chair. Other featured pieces include Gae Aulenti's polyurethane chair exhibited at MoMA in 1972, Matsukaze Masayuki's 4820 armchair (1970), Anna Castelli Ferrieri's stackable 4870 (1986), Ron Arad's FPE (1997), and the latest Piuma by Piero Lissoni, which achieves a record thickness of 2 mm and weight of 2.4 kg. The exhibition runs until March 18, 2017.
