Karlīna Mežecka's 'Don't Tell Me' at Kim? Contemporary Art Centre, Riga

The Kim? Contemporary Art Centre in Riga is currently showcasing Karlīna Mežecka's most extensive solo exhibition, 'Don't Tell Me' (2000). The exhibition is divided into four sections: 'Life', 'Death', 'Dominance', and 'Summary'. Within 'Dominance', an image of a conjoined calf captures themes of sacrifice and iconography. 'Life' presents a bed accompanied by a whale-like sculpture, while 'Death' features a glowing plinth displaying ceramic pieces that allude to reliquaries. Mežecka employs a unique method of blowing molten glass into ceramics. Additionally, a sound piece by Aleksejs Apolskis enhances the atmosphere. The exhibition concludes with 'Summary', which includes vitrines of photographic fragments. Mežecka, born in 1995 in Riga, holds an MA from the Royal College of Art and has participated in the upcoming 'Archive of Fragility' (2024). She was awarded the Kim? Residency Award for 2025.
