Karl Lagerfeld's Only Hotel Design Opens in Macau

The Karl Lagerfeld Macau, the only hotel designed by the late German couturier, will open in June 2023. Located within the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau, the 271-room luxury hotel features interiors conceived by Lagerfeld before his death in 2019, blending modern Chinoiserie with traditional craftsmanship. Custom furnishings include sculptures by Marcel Wanders and Jean-Michel Othoniel, Terzani chandeliers, handmade porcelain vases from Jingdezhen, and circular room dividers inspired by Chinese moon gates. The hotel also houses the Mesa Restaurant by chef José Avillez, a Book Lounge with 4,000 books, a spa, and indoor/outdoor pools. The property is operated by SJM Resorts S.A., which also hosts the first Palazzo Versace Macau within the same resort. The hotel's creative direction is now led by Hun Kim. The opening follows the 2023 Met Gala and the exhibition "Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty" at the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, which showcased 150 of his designs.
