Karl Hofer retrospective at Museo Castello San Materno in Ascona
In Ascona, Switzerland, the Museo Castello San Materno is presenting 'Karl Hofer. Figure, Nature morte e Paesaggi' to mark its ten-year anniversary. The exhibition, curated by Harald Fiebig, showcases 29 seldom-seen pieces from various collections and will be open until September 29, 2024. It explores Hofer's artistic journey from ethereal figures to still lifes and landscapes, emphasizing Ticino as his "second spiritual home." Hofer's artistic career began in Rome (1903-1908) and Paris, followed by travels to southern India. After being interned during WWI, he established himself in Zurich and found success during the 1920s. In 1933, he was dismissed, and in 1937, over 300 of his works were seized. His studio was bombed in 1943, resulting in significant losses. The exhibition is organized by Fondazione per la cultura Kurt e Barbara Alten.
